4 Cities in 2 1/2 Days!

Pictures from Venice! I wasn't there for long, but I still got some pretty great pictures!

I loved all the canals!

Here's me in San Marco Square!

This is Bled Island in the middle of Bled Lake in Slovenia. You can take a boat out to it, but we didn't have time.

Here's Lake Bled!

The sun came out as soon as we got to the lake!

This is the path that went around the lake.

This is Bled Castle on the cliff overlooking the lake.

Here is the market in Ljubljana. There were so many stands! We even got to try a traditional Slovenian food, which was kind of like pizza. It was rye bread with eggs and cheese on top and it was delicious, but I can't remember what it was called :)

There was a cow just walking through the middle of town!

Slovenian folk dancers!

The famous Triple Bridge at the center of Ljubljana. There are three bridges right next to each other, but you can't see the whole thing in this picture.

Church of the Annunciation

Ljubljanica River running right through the town.

Hey everyone!!! Well, this weekend was super busy, but so awesome and definitely worth all the craziness! I was in 4 different cities and 2 countries in 2 and ½ days! Early Friday morning, I went with a few friends, Molly, Maranda and Jordan, to Trieste, Italy, which is in northern Italy on the Slovenian border. I really liked all the Austrian-inspired architecture, plus it was on the coast, which was pretty cool. It was really windy there though, which was fine in the morning, but later in the afternoon it started raining and was pretty stormy. In Trieste, we climbed up to this castle on top of a hill; there were a lot of stairs :) Once it started raining we went into a cafe and had the BEST hot chocolate ever! It was pretty much like drinking melted chocolate with panna on it (whipped cream). It was delicious!

Then later that night, we took a bus to Ljubljana, Slovenia. It was my first time being in a different country in Europe, so it was awesome! I didn’t realize how small of a country it would be though. There are only 2 million people in the whole country, and Ljubljana is the capital, but it’s more like Ferrara, which is a small town for Italy. There was a river that ran right through the town and our hostel was right in the center of the town. There were a lot of European study abroad students there too that was got to meet which was a lot of fun. There was a girl from Estonia, Germany, Finland and a few British students. It was really fun to hang out with some new people! And most of them are studying in Trieste, so they are pretty close to us and they may come visit :)

On Saturday afternoon we took the train to a small town about an hour away, called Lake Bled. It is in the Julian Alps and was absolutely gorgeous and even better because the sun came out on the train ride there. We walked all the way around the lake, which was probably at least 2 or 3 miles. It was so nice! Unfortunately, we only had a couple of hours there because the last train left at 7:20 PM. The train station was about a 10 minute bus ride from the lake, so we figured we could just walk back to the train station, which was a bad idea. We left with about an hour and a half until the train, so we figured it would be plenty of time. We even stopped at a cafe on the way to ask directions and he said it was a 5 km walk and wanted to call a taxi for us, but we thought we would be fine. The walk took a little longer than we expected though and we barely made it back to the train!

It's a good thing we made it back though because the only train back to Italy left at 2:30 AM on Sunday morning, so we decided just to stay awake until we got on the train. The train went straight from Ljubljana to Venice and arrived there at 7 AM. We figured that since we were in Venice and still had a whole day, we may as well explore Venice for awhile, since I had still not been yet. Molly had already been there so it was nice to have a tour guide! It was also really nice being there so early because it wasn’t as crowded as it usually is. We walked through Venice to San Marco Square which was pretty incredible. It was huge and we got there so early that we got to see the flags being put up :) I really liked all the canals and that the city was on the water, which made it really pretty. We only stayed for a couple of hours because we were all pretty tired, but it was nice to see the city since we were there anyways!

This week is another busy week, tonight we have cooking class and are making eggplant parmesan! Hope everyone is doing well and I miss you all!!! :)

Ciao everyone! I haven't written anything in forever because so much has been going on! I can't believe how fast everything is going by here. Another fun weekend has already come to an end. Last night I just got back from Forence. I went with my friend Shaina and we got there Friday afternoon and left Saturday night. Florence is beautiful and definitely worth visiting. It is SO different though then any other city I have been to in Italy so far because there are so many tourists! I haven't heard that much English since I have been home. Our roommate at the hostel was from Australia too, so that was kind of cool to talk to her. Anyways, the city was amazing, especially at night. We hiked up this hill Friday night and there was an AMAZING view of the whole city, it was gorgeous! On Saturday morning we woke up early and went to the Uffizi Art Gallery, which was awesome. There was so much art that we could have spent the whole day in there. We did have to wait in line for an hour and a half, but it wasn't bad at all and it is definitely worth it if you visit Florence. We didn't have time to see that real Statue of David, but there are a lot of copies all over the city, which are still incredible. Someone told us that you could see the Statue from a window outside of the museum, so we went to the museum and looked all over for the window, but couldn't find it :)

Last week, we also got to go to a soccer game. Ferrara's team is called SPAL. It was a lot of fun going to an Italian soccer game, even though the team isn't very good :) The Italian fans are crazy though, and we were pretty much the only girls in the whole stadium. SPAL lost the game 2-1 and at the end, our fans were going crazy and yelling at the other team and their fans. It was pretty intense. I think we get to go to some more games later in the season though, so maybe we will win a game :)

We also learned how to make tagliatelle, which is an egg pasta. It was really easy to make, so I can't wait to make it when I get home. All you do is mix up flour and an egg with your hands until it is dough. Then you flatten it out, roll it up and cut it into long noodles with a knife. It was delicious too :) I really like our cooking classes, because afterwards they feed us a full 4 course meal!

This week, I have 3 midterms, on Monday and Tuesday. It's kind of nice that I will be able to get them all out of the way, but I should probably start studing today! But, here are also some pictures from Florence!
