Well, this weekend was our last trip with the whole group, which is kind of sad, but it was a lot of fun. We went to Umbria, which is a region in central Italy, close to Tuscany. It was about a 4 hour bus ride from Ferrara. It is know for its chocolate, olive oil and wine. We stayed in what they called a country house up in the hills. It was really nice because we were kind of out in the middle of nowhere and had amazing views! The house was beautiful and we were the only people there. There was even a swimming pool, which we even got to use because the weather was so nice.
The first city we visited was Assisi. The whole town was up in the hills, so there were a lot of stairs throughout the city. All the churches there were gorgeous, especially the Basilica of St. Francis. It was enormous, and was kind of like 3 big churches together, because there were 3 separate stories. It's kind of hard to explain, but it was really cool. We weren't allowed to take pictures inside, but it was pretty amazing.
The other city we went to was Perugia, which was a fun town to walk around in. It was relly cool because to get to the town from where we were parked you had to walk through a castle, which was mostly underground.
We also got to go wine tasting in a castle, which was really fun. We got a tour of the castle and got to see where all the wine was stored. Also, we got to go the vineyard where the wine was made and see where and how the wine is made. We even got to go out to the vineyard and pick some of our own grapes, which were delicious!!
The food for the whole weekend was also amazing, so I HAVE to talk about it :) It was nice not to have to cook for the whole weekend too! Every night for dinner we went to this one reasurant and had 5 course meals, of pasta, rice, potatoes, pork, steak, lasagna, and a lot more, but I can't remember it all :) Luckily, the portions are pretty small, so you don't get too full, too fast :) The most interesting thing was Friday night for desert when they served us gelato with olive oil on it. At first I wasn't so sure about it, but it was actually really good! It is a specialty of Umbria because they make such good olive oil. I don't think it would taste as good if I did it at home :)
